Sunyani(B/A), Oct.05, GNA - Right Reverend Thomas Ampah Brient, Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese, on Wednesday expressed concern about the spate of indiscipline that was causing immorality, promiscuity and prostitution in the Anglican Church that had crippled the growth and development of the Church.
He said in addition, power struggle had engulfed the church resulting in character assassination instead of seeking God's guidance to occupy positions.
Rt. Rev. Brient was speaking at the opening session of the National Conference of the Ghana Anglican Clergy Association at Sunyani. The five-day Conference, under the theme "The role of the Anglican Priest in the 21st century, the way forward" is being attended by Bishops of the Joint Anglican Diocesan Council in Ghana. Rt. Rev. Brient asked leaders of the church to eschew materialism, power, dominion and fame and concentrate on the propagation of the word of God to change society.
He said the Diocese had estab lished pension schemes for the clergy to cater for their future well being on retirement, while a scholarship scheme had been instituted for brilliant but needy girls in the Yamfo Anglican Senior Secondary School.
Rt. Rev Daniel Yinkah Sarfo, Presiding Bishop of the Council called for the study on Urban Theology among leaders of the Church to acquire the dynamics of ministry and update skills for effective ministry.
He stressed the need for Christian leaders to render sacrificial services, leadership by example, integrity and efficiency in their areas of endeavours.
Rt.Rev. Yinkah Sarfo said mediocrity would not move the church forward and therefore, called for efficiency and peak performance among Christian leaders.
Okatakyie Agyemang Kodom IV, Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area asked the Church to forged ahead and improve on their development projects to enhance its growth.
He advised the church to rehabilitate its schools to improve on education in the area.
Okatakyie Kodom pledged to release land to the Church towards the establishment of the Anglican Technical University sited at Berekum. 05 Oct.05
