Accra, June 23, GNA- The Minister of Interior, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, on Wednesday said the Ministry could not construct or complete a number of police projects in the country due to insufficient budgetary allocation.
He has therefore, appealed to district assemblies, chiefs and people who had provided land for such projects to assist the Police Administration with financial support.
Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang said this in Parliament when answering questions from Members of Parliament.
Mr. Emmanuel Teye, NPP-Ashiaman wanted to know the immediate steps the Ministry of Interior was taking to complete the construction of the Police Barracks at Ashaiman.
The Interior Minister said the Police Administration was undertaking a census of all uncompleted projects to determine their status and an estimate how much it would cost to complete them.
In another question, Dr. William Boakye Akoto, NPP-Birim North asked the Minister what has happened to the Police enquiry into alleged police brutality at Ofoase that led to the death of one young man.
The Minister said the policeman involved in the incident have since May 24, 2002, been on interdiction while the case docket, together with statements taken from witnesses, have been submitted to the Eastern Regional office of the Attorney-General's Department for advice and that the matter was being pursued by Ministry.
