Interior Minister imposes indefinite curfew on Sampa over chieftaincy dispute

The Minister for the Interior, Henry Quartey, has, by Executive Instrument, imposed a curfew on Sampa Township in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region.

The curfew, which starts from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am each day, is effective from Thursday, October 24, 2024, until further notice, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry.

The minister acted on the advice of the Bono Regional Security Council to impose the curfew following chieftaincy disputes in the area.

The government in a statement has urged chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their grievances to ensure peace in the area.

Meanwhile, there is a total ban on all persons in Sampa Township in the Jaman North District of the Bono Region from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons. Any person found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted according to the statement by the ministry.
