The running mate of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed to residents of the Volta region to invest their votes in the NPP in this year’s elections for better returns.
According to him, people in the region have received little or no dividend on their votes, which they have continuously traded with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the years, hence the need for a change.
The former deputy Central Bank boss said: “If you only shop in one market without trying the other, you won't know how good that market is. So we are only here to plead with you people that, you have shopped in the NDC market for far too long and it's time to think about the NPP and what we can do.”
Dr. Bawumia was speaking during a one day campaign tour of the Ho West constituency in the Volta region, where he interacted with traditional leaders at Tsito, Abutia-Teti, Dzolokpuita, Kpedze and Amedzofe on Wednesday.
His visit follows a similar one by the flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo to the southern Volta in a move to mend the frosty relationship between the NPP and the Volta region, which is the political ‘world bank’ of the NDC.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated that the performance of the NDC government in the last seven years was very abysmal and called on Ghanaians to vote massively for the NPP, which has solid policies and programmes as well as competent persons to spearhead real development in the country.
He also hinted of a ‘Water for all’ policy, which will soon be launched by the party with the aim of extending potable water to every community in the country, while concrete policies would be implemented to create jobs for Ghanaians and revamp the country's agriculture sector.
Dr. Bawumia, who later climaxed his tour at the EP College of Education at Amedzope, reiterated the NPP’s commitment to restoring the teacher and nursing trainee allowances in the first budget of a Nana Addo’s government in 2017.
Accompanying him on the tour were regional executives of the NPP and some big wigs of the party in the region including Elizabeth Ohene, former minister of state in the Kufuor administration.
