First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei Owusu has asked media practitioners to properly investigate allegations of corruption against public officials before publishing them.
According to him, some of the allegations out there are totally false and not worth publishing at all to create suspicion in the country.
“Sometimes it has not happened at all and the media should not also publish it at all”, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lawmaker for Bekwai in the Ashanti Region spoke on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM morning show.
“As a journalist you should investigate it before you come out with stories regarding corruption”, the Chairman of Parliamentary Appointment Committee admonished.
“Do not sit on the fence…listen to the complainant and accuser, investigate then you tell what you know based on truth”, he added.
Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu who earlier this year was accused of taking bribe by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga revealed how he felt by the treated by the media.
“You should have weighed Mahama Ayariga’s word against my mine. …you do not have to come on air to say it at all even before calling me”.
“ Emotionally I was feeling bad as a human being. It has to take some people closer to me to know I was very angry”, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu revealed.
“I am a human being but I have to forgive those who made those allegations against me. This time I am just watching my ways of dealing with people”, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu stated.
