Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumai has called for investigations to continue to ascertain the real cause of the Kintampo Waterfall disaster that claimed 20 lives, while government figures out what to do for the bereaved families.

The Vice-President, who was in the Brong Ahafo Region early yesterday to solidarise with the bereaved families, extended the President’s condolence to the bereaved families and the people of the region for their loss.

“This is a major loss not only for the Brong Ahafo Region but for all of Ghana,” he said.

At least 20 people have been confirmed dead in Sunday's bizarre disaster at the Kintampo Waterfalls when they were crushed by a tumbling tree during a rain storm.

Police in Kintampo have since identified 14 students as among the 20 people who died in the tragic incident.

They comprised 11 students from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School and three students of the University of Energy and Natural Resources at Fiapre, near Sunyani. The six remaining bodies are yet to be identified.

The bodies of the dead have since been deposited at the morgues of Kintampo and Wenchi Government Hospitals and Techiman Holy Family Hospital for identification.

Eight of those, who sustained varying degrees of injuries, are on admission at the Techiman Municipal Hospital for special care.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Afeku in a statement, sympathised with the families of the bereaved and pledged her ministry’s commitment to ensure the necessary regulations to forestall any future occurrence.
