Investigate the murder of the Ya Na -NDC

Accra, Aug. 7, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday urged the government through the security agencies to intensify investigations into the assassination of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, Paramount Chief of Dagbon and 29 others in March last year.

"The acquittal and discharge of the two prime suspects in the Yendi affair has provoked fresh calls on the NPP Government to tell Ghanaians, who then are to be blamed for the Yendi tragic event," Mr John Mahama, NDC Director of Communications, stated at a press conference in Accra. An Accra High Court presided over by Mr Justice Yaw Appau last month acquitted and discharged Mr Iddrisu Gyanfo and Mr Yidana Sugri, the alleged assassins of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.

The court ruled that the Prosecution was not been able to prove a case against the two.

Mr Mahama also noted that the acquittal of the six Police Officers in the stadium disaster trial was a vindication of the NDC's view that the Okudzeto Commission, which investigated the case, had done a great disservice to the nation.

He said the acquittal demonstrates that the Commission failed to identify those whose actions led to the disturbances in the first place. "The NPP Government is not addressing these serious issues, instead it continues to employ crude diversions to confuse issues," Mr Mahama said.

He said a classic example was the "comical and unproductive press conference" by one Awal Larry of Nima, who was put up by the NPP propaganda machinery to malign former President Jerry John Rawlings. The NDC Communications Director, who is also the MP for Bole - Bamboi, alleged that the NPP Administration had also sought to divert attention from the perpetrators of the serial murders of women by planting a preposterous story that Mr Kwame Peprah and others, who were serving prison terms had made contact with the jailed confessed serial killer, Charles Quansah at the Nsawam Prisons.

Mr Mahama said the NDC would continue to play the role of a constructive opposition and was confident to defeat the ruling NPP and win political power through the ballot box.
