Security analyst Dr. Adam Bonah has raised concerns over a viral social media video where some young individuals were seen shooting some firearms.
In an interview with GhanaWeb journalist Joseph Henry Mensah, Adam Bonah noted that the action by the individuals can have serious repercussions on the peace of the country.
Adam Bonah emphasized criminals can also seize the opportunity to cause mayhem to individuals if they come across such replica guns.
"My point is that these are replica guns. So it would be difficult to say these are toy guns; when they get into the hands of any bad person, they can turn them into real guns. We have a regulation banning the use of firecrackers. Because at what point do you determine if that is a replica or a real firearm? If we know who the young people are, the police should bring them to book, question, and interrogate them.
"If any one of these replicas falls into the hands of a bad person, they can use it to rob anybody because some replicas look better than real guns, so when it is pointed at you, you would be quiet for them to take your items. So the earlier we crack down on these people the better for all of us," he said.
Dr. Adam Bonah further noted that the situation can affect the December 7 election if the security service fails to address the issue with urgency.
"If someone didn't tell me these are replicas that are being fired, I would not know. I would just think somebody is just shooting at people. So if anybody wants to look for trouble and go to where people are voting and the person starts to shoot these replicas, would you stay?
"How many people even know the difference between replicas and real guns? So we cannot take chances; this is illegal, and it should not be used. And the incoming elections make the situation worse. We need to know if they are replicas at all or if they are real guns, because most of them may be using them without knowing what they are doing," he added.

Well, at least they're not using real guns! 😂 But seriously, let's hope this trend doesn't escalate into something more serious. We need to find ways to channel this energy positively pic.twitter.com/9k73KEI4ri
