Residents of Somanya in the Eastern Region have clashed with Police officers in the area over the arrest of the leader who organised a demonstration against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the area last week.
Monday’s clash resulted in the torching of a police car by the irate youth.
Last week’s demonstration, which was in connection with huge discrepancies in electricity bills, resulted in the destruction of some ECG property.
Mr Dendenden Adamtey, the leader of the demonstrators was arrested by the police on Monday, 29 May sparking a frenzy by the residents who demanded his immediate release.
The police fired warning shots to disperse the crowd.
