Angry youth made up of yam and charcoal traders in Ashaiman on Tuesday morning besieged the offices of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly and vandalized some property.

They were protesting an eviction exercise carried out by the police last week, our correspondent says.

TV3’s Josephine Frempong reports that work at the Assembly came to a standstill with most workers abandoning their offices for fear of being attacked by the armed youth believed to be Gonjas.

Calm has been restored, our correspondent said on Midday Live on Tuesday, July 28.

She added that four people were rounded up by the police and have been sent to the Ashaiman district police station.

A military had his rifle taken away by one of the protestors, who inflicted wounds on three of the workers at the Assembly, Josephine Frempong said.

Two of the workers had cuts on their foreheads, our correspondent indicated.
