The Tema West constituency office of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been locked over the decision of former parliamentary aspirant Samuel Ofosu Ampofo not to contest the seat in the upcoming primaries of the party.

The irate youth who carried the act Tuesday morning say they will continue to hold the place to ransom until Mr. Ampofo reviews his decision.

Leader of the group Eklu Nazar told Accra-based Asempa FM, the NDC cannot win the seat if the now vice chairman of the party does not run for 2016.

“We will not be happy if this man does not run for the NDC. If he does not run, the party will lose miserably regardless of who represents us in 2016. We have vowed to campaign for him, he should just buy the forms and leave us to do the campaigning. We need a strong person to represent the party,” Nazar stated.

The constituency chairman Ben Doe has confirmed the closure of the office.

Ampofo who performed creditably for the NDC in the 2012 elections has said he cannot contest the seat again because of equally important roles he is currently playing at the party’s headquarters.

Picking of nomination forms for the NDC will close on Thursday, September 10 while the primaries for Presidential and Parliamentary candidates will be held on November 7.
