It appears demons were behind calls for blood to flow in 1979 - Duncan-Williams

The Founder of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, has said it appears Ghanaians who called on the Junta for blood to flow in 1979 were possessed by some evil spirits.

Speaking at the National Peace Council’s collaborative dialogue with prophets in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, the charismatic preacher recounted how some God-fearing Ghanaians also joined in the chorus.

"I have seen a lot over the years in this country from the time of General Acheampong to President Limann to June 4. Let the blood flow. The army generals who were killed, I personally don't believe that they were guilty for their lives to be taken. But, it looks like some demons came to this country and entered very nice God-fearing Ghanaians, and we lost it. We started crying, let the blood flood, and innocent people have died, and their children and grandchildren are still leaving with the scars of what was done to their fathers and grandfathers."

Let the blood flow was the mantra among the Ghanaian populace during the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC) military junta, which started on 4 June 1979 and undertook a "house cleaning" exercise that resulted in the execution of perceived corrupt military officers.

The AFRC was the government of Ghana from June 4, 1979, to September 24, 1979.

The junta, led by then young Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, who had just two weeks earlier been rescued from near execution after his detention following a botched May 15, 1979 coup plot, railroaded its way into power through a bloody takeover that toppled another junta. Supreme Military Council.

The regime's 'House Cleaning' exercise led to the execution of Lt. Gen. Afrifa, Gen. Acheampong, Lt. Gen. Akuffo, Major Gen. E. K. Utuka, and four other senior officers.
