Accra Hearts of Oak star Winful Cobbinah has expressed his delight to be playing for Hearts fans again but insists he’s not a “senior” player in the team.

The mercurial midfielder marked his first game at the Accra Sports Stadium in three years by providing three assists in the 4-2 win over Bechem a couple of days ago.

Cobbinah rejoined Hearts at the beginning of this season after leaving Ghana at the end of the 2013/14 league season.

Following a stint with Saudi side Najran SC, the mercurial midfielder is back home and admits being thrilled to be playing for Hearts again.

“It was a nice feeling playing at the Accra Sports Stadium and I got to admit it is a good feeling to be back playing for Hearts of Oak,” he told accraheartsofoaksc.com

“It is not easy playing at the Accra Sports Stadium for Hearts fans. The demand is that we always play to win and that’s what we feel from the atmosphere because the fans are always expecting something great from the players.

“To overcome it, we just have to concentrate on the game and not be too worried about what is happening off the pitch; if we do well, the fans will let us know.”

Cobbinah has returned with a very vocal style on the field of play. He is providing on-field leadership to his teammates during matches but he has distanced himself from fans’ assertion that he is the “senior” player in the team.

“I do not see myself as a ‘senior’ player,” Cobbinah refutes. “I think we are all equal and it is a team work. If I should direct someone on the pitch, I do not see myself to be a ‘senior’ player but maybe I direct my colleagues because maybe they are out of position or something and I try to remind them to keep the team shape.

“We are very happy and you can see it from our training. We are doing all we can and everybody is giving their maximum best and that is why we have won back-to-back games.”
