Retired senior Police officer, Dr. Benjamin Agordzo has revealed that the prosecution team fabricates stories making innocent people go to jail.
ACP Benjamin Agordzo and eight others were charged with conspiring to commit high treason in 2021. The prosecution presented 13 witnesses, including members of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The High Court convicted six of the alleged coup plotters for counts of conspiracy to commit high treason.
The six were then sentenced to death by hanging after being found guilty. They include; Donya Kafui, Bright Alan Debrah, Johannes Zikpi, Esther Saan Dekuwine, Ali Solomon and Sylvester Akanpewon.
Upon further investigations and court proceedings, the Court acquitted ACP Benjamin Agordzo, Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli and one other junior military officer, Corporal Seidu Abubakar.
In an interview on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey, Dr. Agordzo accused the prosecution team of fabricating stories that were not in his favour.
“There is a possibility of fabricating stories that do not exist and in my case, it happened not once, not twice, not thrice, and when they were caught, they come out with another one. “he claimed.
Mr. Benjamin Agordzo expressed his difficulty in going through the entire trial, trying to avoid jail.
He further said, if not for his good investigative skills, his thirty years of experience as a police officer with the support of his good lawyers, he would have been jailed alongside with the other six who were found guilty at the end of the trial.
Despite all the allegations, he said he remained vigilant and cautious because he was innocent.
“If you are not vigilant and alert, you will go to prison as an innocent person.” Adding that, “Although the court is a place to expect justice, it doesn’t come easily.”
