It’s impossible to tar all roads in Ghana - Minister

All roads in Ghana can “never” be tarred, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Inusah Fuseini has said.

According to the minister, the irregular nature of the land tenure system in the country makes it impossible for the government to preempt the pace of societal growth and the corresponding infrastructure.

“All roads in Ghana probably can never be tarred in total because of population growth,” Inusah told host of the Morning Starr, Kafui Dey on Starr 103.5 FM, Thursday.

He added: “Every year, people are going to be ahead of you, and so you want to catch up. For instance the development that you see in Accra, next year, you might be moving towards Aburi. People will get to Aburi before government gets there”.

He however, indicated that measures are underway to asphalt the roads in Accra and its immediate environs.

“There is a comprehensive plan in place to asphalt 76 kilometers of roads in Accra. We realise that if we asphalt the roads, the maintenance on them reduce so we can have the money to construct other roads in the country” he stated.
