It’s senseless to beat war drums – Kyei Mensah fires 'Coupist' Boakye Gyan

Majority Leader in Parliament and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu has described Former Military Officer Major(retired) Kwadwo Boakye Gyan's comments that there will be a civil war in the country should the EC go-ahead to compile new voters register as senseless and ignorant comments

Major Kwadwo Boakye Gyan, a military officer who planned the coup d’etat of June 1979 that brought former military ruler Jerry John Rawlings to power, started hitting hard at the Electoral Commission (EC) by saying the commission’s plan to compile new voter register will bring a civil war to the country.

“The sacking of the former EC boss( Charlotte Osei) was politically motivated and political motivation, in this case, is to beef up the numbers so that they can win, because they don’t have confidence in their winning numbers…. otherwise they wouldn’t tamper with the register; but more importantly. I don’t know how old you were in the 60s, but I’m telling you confidently that, in post-independence Africa, all crisis and civil wars had happened on the back of disputed elections and where they are going now, they are walking us into civil war and if they want it, they will get it, quote me”. He warned in an interview on Tuesday.

Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu has however responded to the military man describing him as an “ignorant” and “senseless” person.

“I have seen the news article attributed to Major Boakye Gyan. For me, I believe he does not understand whatever he said, that there will be a civil war when EC compiles a new voters’ register. He said that out of ignorance. How can anybody think that way? What is the sense in that? Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu quizzed.

Ghana will go to the polls come December 2020 to elect a President and lawmakers as mandated by the 1992 constitution.
