J. H. Mensah urges NPP supporters to ensure peaceful campaigns

Abesim (B/A) May 31, GNA - Mr John Henry Mensah, Senior Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani East at the weekend called on New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters and members, particularly the youth, to ensure that their activities during this year's electioneering campaign encompassed peace.

Speaking at a fund-raising organized by the Party at Abesim, near Sunyani, he said, "this will help to nurture the country's infant democracy".

The Senior Minister advised against the use of insults and violent acts against political opponents to ensure that the December elections were devoid of unnecessary tension and confusion. He cautioned the Party's polling station agents to be vigilant to ensure that no political party adopted dubious means to win the election and asked Party Executives to work harder to win more supporters for the Party.

"It is only the NPP Government that can work to relieve the country of abject poverty", he said.

In a welcoming address, Mr Kofi Kyeremeh, Area Chairman of the Party, expressed regret that the Party did not have an office in the area, which he said had restrained them from effectively discharging their duties.

He explained that the ceremony was meant to raise money to rehabilitate an office of two rooms, rented from the Chief of Abesim, Nana Kumi Achiaw II, at a cost of 2.4 million cedis for two years, adding that the rehabilitation would cost 17 million cedis. The Area Chairman appealed to the Party's National Executive to help create more employment opportunities for the youth, who were not happy with their current conditions.

A total of 14.4 million cedis was realized at the ceremony and Mr Kyeremah gave the assurance that the amount would be used for the intended purpose.
