Claims that J B Danquah-Adu’s murder was an “insider job” should be ignored, former Attorney General Nii Ayikoi Otoo has said.

Social media has been awash with messages suggesting the late MP’s murder was politically motivated and possibly linked to an apparent presidential aspiration he nursed.

But Mr Otoo has condemned such comments and urged Ghanaians to allow the police to unravel the mystery behind the killing.

Through a post on his Facebook wall on 14 February, 2016, Mr Otoo said: “When a suspect has been arrested over a murder, it's the police who can release his statement, whether it be a confession or otherwise.

Accordingly, until the police releases a statement of the suspect and charges him with the offence of murder of JB, please ignore the politically motivated statements making rounds on social media!”

Mr Otoo indicated that: “The suggestions that it's an insider job should equally be ignored until we hear from the police…Once someone is in custody, let's wait to hear what he has told the police.”

Meanwhile the Accra Regional Police Command has handed over investigations into the murder to the national headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

A team of security officials led by Accra Regional Police Commander COP Dr George Akuffo Dampare picked up a suspect identified as Daniel Asiedu on Thursday 11 February, 2016.

Several personal effects of the late MP were found in his possession. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other individuals he revealed as accomplices.
