The 2016 Independent presidential candidate, Jacob Osei Yeboah who is popularly called JOY, says the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed to holistically roll out the National Identification registration exercise because of the approach being used.

He is calling for an intelligent address system instead of the digital address system.

JOY told Kwabena Agyapong, host of Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that, we cannot have a functional National Identification System without an intelligent address system.

The NPP he said promised to ensure Ghanaians have access to a national ID card but the government has failed woefully in discharging that duty in an effective manner.

He was speaking on the performance of the NPP over the past two years.

Touching also on the ban on small-scale mining, he said, the NPP had a good plan in dealing with illegal mining, which was rampant under the Mahama, led administration.

He said, the approach used by the NPP was not the best and rather made small scale miners suffer huge financial loss, a situation he noted created great disaffection for President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Mr Osei Yeboah on corruption said, it was one major thing that saw the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lose power in 2016 following the assurance Nana Addo gave Ghanaians that he will fight corruption and deal with corrupt people.

The inability of the NPP to deal with corruption he stressed would mean that, the NPP is just like the NDC and the two are engaging in scratch my back, I scratch your back.

‘’Corruption was endemic under NDC but today, the NDC is accusing the NPP of being corrupt because the NPP has failed to fight corruption with systemic solution. You cannot fight corruption even if you appoint Martin ‘King Kong’ Amidu’.

He commended the new governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Ernest Addison for taking the bold step in cleaning the mess in the banking sector but called for sanctions against those who caused the mess.

Meanwhile, he has commended President Akufo-Addo for implementing the free senior high school policy and called on Ghanaians to support the government in sustaining the policy.

On the general performance of the NPP, he scored the government 49% but believes the NPP has been efficient but not effective.

‘’On the whole government is being efficient but not effective. I will rate NPP 49% for what they have done over the past two years,’’ he said.
