A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Collins Dauda, has warned of a possible chaos in the country should the incumbent government instigate the imprisonment of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings who is currently on trial for causing financial loss to the state. Mr Dauda, MP for Asutifi South in the Brong Ahafo Region, in a contribution to a Tema-based private radio station programme, stated that the former first lady was being harassed by the government in order to embarrass the former first couple.
“If Nana Konadu is jailed, calamity will befall the country”, he warned. Nana Konadu, who is President of the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM), is standing trial with five others on 30-count charges, including causing financial loss to the state in the divestiture of GIHOC Nsawam Cannery to Caridem Development Company Limited, owned by DWM.
When asked by the host of the programme whether his statement was a threat and what form the chaos may take, Mr. Dauda who was a former NDC Brong Ahafo Regional Chairman could only say, “I have not figured out something yet, but I am saying, what would happen, should she be jailed, would be very bad.
“We fully support Nana Konadu and would continue to rally behind her no matter the number of times the Kufuor administration harasses her. We will giver her our support,” he asserted. He questioned why the attention is on Konadu Agyeman when there are others in the case.D. Guide
