Jake should be punished - Dr Nyaho Tamakloe

A founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe, is wishing that the National Chairman of his party, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, be punished by the NPP disciplinary committee.

In an interview granted TV3 news on Friday night, Dr. Nyaho Tamakloe said Jake’s comment that aspiring candidates are free to use money to influence delegates if they have it, is wrong.

According to him, it was very unfortunate for the National Chairman to make those comments when the NPP has always been against the use of money in politics.

For this reason, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe said, unequivocally, the disciplinary committee of the party should punish Obetsebi-Lamptey.

Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, in responding to allegations of bribery and corruption ahead of the party’s elections to select regional executives, urged members to do so freely since in politics, money is known to be a gift.

"If you speak well, then go and speak well, if you are a good organizer, show the people you are a good organiser; if you have money..then use the money, if you have time and patience then show the people you have time and patience," Obetsebi-Lamptey is reported to have said.

Even though many have condemned Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey for his comments, he still insists that people must be allowed to use their strength in all capacity including money, as far as politics is concerned.
