Jaman North & Tain Constituencies express gratitude to gov't

Sampa (B/A), Nov. 2, GNA - The Chiefs and people of the Jaman North and Tain Constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region told Vice President Aliu Mahama at various durbars, on Monday, that they were highly impressed with the development projects executed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Administration.

They, therefore, pledged their support for the Administration to enable it to continue with projects in education, energy, health, agriculture, road infrastructure and other sectors to improve their standard of living.

At the border town of Sampa, a representative of their ailing chief, Nana Kofi Sono II, who could not attend the durbar, told the Vice President Mahama that 180 projects in various areas had so far been implemented towards the development of the Jaman District. They were particularly grateful to President John Agyekum Kufuor for honouring his 2000 Campaign promise to split the Jaman District into North and South to ensure the socio-economic growth of the area. Sampa, which borders Cote d'Ivoire, is now the district capital of the newly created Jaman North District.

At a joint durbar held at Duadaso Number Two, Nana Kwadwo Mansa II, Chief of Duadaso the Town, expressed similar sentiments on behalf of his people and their counterparts of Duadaso Number Two and Kokoa. The Chiefs and people of Namasa, Debibi and Brodi in the newly created Tain District also praised the Government for providing school blocks, school furniture, electricity and other amenities and asked for more to make life more comfortable for them.

Vice President Mahama, who on Sunday started a four-day tour of the Brong Ahafo Region, told the people that they would witness further improvement in their lives should the New Patriotic Party receive the mandate of Ghanaians to continue its agenda of creating wealth. In line with the Government's policy to link all district capitals with tarred roads, the Vice President said the Nsawkaw - Wenchi Road and others would be tarred to make transportation faster and easier and to boost commercial and social activities.

Electricity, he said, would also be extended to all communities to support cottage industries and to enable pupils and students to study at night.

In addition to upgrading all their facilities to suit the status of their district capitals, children in the Tain District would receive free education at the basic level, he said.

They would also be given free school uniforms.

He advised the people to endeavour to preserve the peace and unity of the nation during political campaigns and elections and report troublemakers to the security agencies.

"We must let the Ivorian crisis guide us during this critical time and not allow anybody to destroy our nation for any benefit," he stressed.

"You are close neighbours of our Ivorian brothers and sisters and you know what conflict has done to that once peaceful and beautiful nation."

The Vice President, who visited Nana Kofi Sono and wished him a speedy recovery at his palace, inaugurated the administration block of the National Health Insurance Scheme for the Jaman North District at Sampa.

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways; Nana Kwadwo Seinti, Regional Minister and Regional Chairman of NPP, Kwadwo Yeboah Fordjour and Alhaji Hussein Maigah, Chairman of the Nasara Club, accompanied the Vice President.
