Jamasi (Ash), - Twenty farmers in Jamasi have established a snail project with the support of "Africa 2000". The project, which was initiated with 40 snails a year ago, now has over 1,500 snails. This was disclosed by Mr. Lawrence Kwame Fosu, project organizer, when he spoke to the Ghana News Agency at Jamasi today on efforts being made to involve more farmers and schools in snail and mushroom production in the area. He said the Jamasi project would be used to teach farmers and schools in the area the techniques and management of snails and mushroom production. Mr. Fosu noted that bushfires are contributing to the extinction of snails which, he said, are both medicinal and good for the table and called on farmers to establish more farms for an all-year-round production of snails. He appealed to the farmers to make their expertise available to other farmers and institutions in the area.
