Jealous boxer in court for assault

Accra, Aug. 3, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Tuesday remanded into prison custody a boxer for unlawful entry, stealing, causing unlawful damage and harm.

Bernard Mahamadu Rahim was alleged to have vented his anger on a labourer whom he accused of taking over his girlfriend with whom he had two children.

Rahim pleaded guilty but the court presided over by Mrs Doris Bimpong deferred sentence to Monday, August 16.

Police Inspector Jubiok Michaels the Prosecuting, said the complainant, Stephen Dok is a resident of Soko, near Dansoman in Accra.

He said Rahim and Miss Rabi Innusah, his girlfriend both reside at Sukura in Accra and have two children.

Prosecution said sometime in 2009, Rahim and Rabi separated and the accused later had information that Miss Rabi was going out with Dok.

He said Rahim became worried over Rabi's affair with the complainant because she had not officially informed him that she was no longer interested in their relationship or in him (Rahim).

Inspector Michaels said on July 15, this year, while Dok and his lover (Rabi) were asleep, Rahim in the company of four others now at large invaded their house.

He said Rahim forced the door open and descended on the complainant but the complainant managed to bit Rahim's cheek.

Inspector Michaels said the action by the complainant enraged Rahim who destroyed the complainant's television set and took away his GH¢500 cash, DVD home theatre and two mobile phones.

Rahim when quizzed by the Police admitted entering the house of the complainant but denied assaulting and stealing the items and money.
