Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, has alleged that President Akufo-Addo’s nomination of Jean Mensa as new chairperson of the Electoral Commission is geared towards rigging the 2020 elections.
He argued that it appears all policies and appointments by the president are directed at creating chaos in the country.
“Akufo-Addo wants to bring chaos and trouble in the country with this new appointments,” he stated in an interview on Okay FM on Tuesday.
He added that the president failed to do broad consultation before naming making the nominations.
He insisted the move is a clear indication that, they (NPP) are planning to rig 2020 elections.
But John Boadu, General Secretary of the NPP rejected claims by Mr Asiedu questioning why the NDC is fighting vehemently for Charlotte Osei, when she was actually removed with two others, (Amadu Sulley and Georgina Amankwa).
“I can’t bring myself to understand why the NDC has singled out just Charlotte Osei when in fact, her deputies also suffered same fate.
“Aren’t they humans with the same blood running through their veins? Why the defense for Charlotte alone,” he questioned.
He dismissed Asiedu Nketia’s earlier claims that the president didn’t consult before the appointment questioning if Mahama consulted anyone before appointing Charlotte Osei.
Mr Boadu stated that Jean is not just diligent but is cut for the position of Electoral Commission Chairperson.
