Dr. Randy Abbey, Host of Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, has expressed concern over the politicisation of the fight against illegal mining activities, popularly referred to as galamsey, in the country.

Speaking on the programme on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, he questioned how some political actors would claim the fight against the menace is politically- motivated.

"How can you have this, then when there is a call to action, people can stand somewhere and create the impression that it is politically-motivated? Jesus Christ! That is why I pray the Prophet Oduro prayer. Anybody who thinks that way does not deserve to live. For anybody, if you are a medical doctor and the Ghana Medical Association is speaking against galamsey ,yet you can say that it is politically-motivated, if the entirety of labour in Ghana is speaking against something, you can say it is politically motivated. If the clergy is speaking about galamsey, you say it is politically motivated and we want you to lose elections," he fumed.

His remarks come at a time when public discussions on the negative impact of illegal mining have resurfaced, with many organisations, groups and individuals urging swift action to combat the menace.
