A co-owner of Cabest Jewellery, the jewellery shop in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra, where a robbery occurred on Saturday, November 2, 2024, has stated that his company has never used a bullion van to transport money after any business transaction.
According to him, the company, which handles millions of Ghana Cedis for purchasing raw gold, has chosen not to use an armored vehicle for what he believes are good reasons.
“He [the customer] had come for the money, and it was when he was leaving, after being paid, that the incident occurred. I’m not going to lie because of this incident. The truth is that we have never used a bullion van for our transactions. We decided against it to avoid drawing too much attention. So we use regular cars to transport money after our business transactions,” the co-owner said.
Meanwhile, he and his brother, Clement Amos Baffour, who co-own Cabest Jewellery, have decided to reimburse the customer for all the money stolen from him during the armed robbery.
According to the owners, approximately GH¢7.5 million was stolen from the customer who had supplied them with raw gold.
“I’m partners with Mr. Baffour. The amount we paid him was stolen over GH¢6.2 million. He had gone elsewhere to take some money before coming to us. So, altogether, it was around GH¢7.5 million,” he said in an interview with GhanaWeb TV’s #SayItLoud.
The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt following this brazen daylight robbery in Adabraka. The incident has left the community in fear and prompted the police to take urgent action.
In a statement issued on November 2, 2024, the police confirmed that a group of armed men targeted the jewellery shop, injuring at least one person during the attack. The police have vowed to apprehend the robbers and bring them to justice.
“The Police are on a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewellery shop at Adabraka in Accra on Saturday, November 2, 2024, injuring one person,” part of the statement reads. It concluded, “We would like to assure the public that we will find them and bring them to face justice.”
