Jomoro Assembly provide projects to the people

The Jomoro District Assembly has for the past five years undertaken a number of development projects to improve the lot of the people.

The projects include provision of educational infrastructure, roads, good drinking water, health facilities and improvement in sanitation costing over thousands of Ghana Cedis.

The District chief Executive, Mr Sylvester Daddieh, made this known at a “Peoples forum” at Half Assini.

It was under the theme “Strengthening Transparency, Accountability and Active Citizenship for Jomoro Development”.

The programme was organized by the Assembly in collaboration with Friends of the Nation and supported by STAR-Ghana, both NGOs.

Mr Daddieh said the Assembly has constructed a total of 188.9 kilometers length of roads in the District out of which 87.5 of it was borne by the Central Government with the remaining 101.4 kilometers, by the Assembly at a cost of 738,101.4 Ghana Cedis.

He said Assembly spent 9,000 Ghana Cedis to clear mountains of refuse at Half Assini, Ekpu and Tikobo No.1 to prevent an outbreak of diseases in the District.

On education, the DCE said the Assembly between 2011 and 2014 took delivery of 11,809 Sown School Uniforms, 336 laptops and 8,590 pieces text books from government for distribution towards quality education delivery.

According to him a total of 264,772.86 Ghana Cedis was received for 2011/12 and 2013/14 academic years from Central government as Capitation Grants to Schools.

He said the Assembly procured 5,300 Mono and Dual desks as well as 2,650 Tables and chairs for deprived schools in the area, adding that it also supported Science Teaching and Mathematics Education (STME) in the district at a cost of 2,500 Ghana Cedis during the period.

Mr Daddieh said the Assembly has sponsored Nine Nurses Trainee and 33 Teacher Trainees at a cost of 24,830 Ghana Cedis under its Scholarship to complement government effort to provide quality education in the country.
