Tamale, Nov. 24, GNA - Four journalists in the Northern Region nearly met their untimely death when the vehicle in which they traveling run into a deep ditch near Binde in the Bunkpurugu/Yunyoo District. The four were Salifu Mumuni Amankwa of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Saaka Mohammed of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Yakubu Abdul Majeed of the New Times Corporation (NTC) and Alex Ibrahim, Northern Regional Public Relations Officer.
They were returning from Bunkpurugu with the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, who had gone there with them to assess the security situation in the area.
Mr Ibrahim who sustained serious injuries is on admission at the Nalerigu Hospital, while the rest had been examined, treated and discharged.
Speaking to the GNA in Tamale after the incident Mr Amankwa who sustained minor injuries said the driver of the Toyota Pickup in which they were traveling could not contain the dusty road in the convoy veering off the road and landed in the ditch.
He said it took the occupants some time before Mr Majeed managed to come out to help the others out and together they helped to remove Mr Ibrahim who had been wailing in the front seat. Mr Amankwa said they were almost stranded since the rest of the convoy was not aware of the accident and sped off. He said they managed to call Alhaji Idris on his cell phone, who then sent a vehicle to convoy them to the Nalerigu Hospital. 24 Nov. 07
