Accra, March 17, GNA - This year's Joy FM Easter Soup Kitchen mainly for street children and vulnerable groups in society is expected to fete about 10,000 people.
The annual event, which is the ninth in the series would be held on March 26, this year at its traditional venue, the Holy Garden, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, under the auspices of Joy FM, an Accra based radio station.
The occasion affords children in Accra the opportunity to enjoy hot cooked meals, drinks amidst merry making and also receives free medical services.
A statement issued from the station's Programmes Department on Wednesday said, this year's event coincides with the 10th anniversary of Joy FM, the country's first registered private radio station. It affirmed the station's determination and commitment to supporting street persons and other vulnerable members of society.
The statement said in fulfilment of a pledge made last year, Joy FM would organise a bi-monthly medical screening and care for street people in addition to health education activities.
It indicated that previous medical exercises had shown that many people lack proper medical care and also knowledge about Sexually Transmitted Diseases including HIV/AIDS, skin care and good eating habits. The bi-monthly screening, therefore, starts May this year and would be held every other month.
