Juaben (Ashanti Region) 4 Nov. The medical officer in charge of Juaben Hospital has appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to ensure regular power supply to the hospital to avoid damage to vaccines meant for the polio immunization exercise. Dr Kwaku Yeboah Kese complained that at a period when power is badly needed for the preservation of vaccines for the immunization exercise, the hospital continues to experience frequent power cuts. He made the appeal at a workshop for 60 volunteers of this year's National Immunisation Day (NID) programme in the Juaben sub- district yesterday. Frequent power cuts compel the hospital authorities to store the polio vaccines in Kumasi, which does not rpt not augur well for the safety of the vaccines. Dr Kese said if steps are not rpt not taken to avoid power cuts to the hospital, the 5,000 children targeted for immunization, representing 95 per cent coverage, may not be met. He appealed to government institutions to release their vehicles for the exercise.
