Supreme Court Justice, William Atuguba is asking members of the country’s judiciary to take a cue from investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ latest exposé and change their ways.
Speaking at the opening of the 2015/2016 legal year, Justice Atuguba said the scandal had dented the image of the Judiciary hence his call.
According to him, members of the service must act professionally at all times in order to prevent such unfortunate happenings.
“Let us open up a new era in our judiciary which corruption and all the shades cannot have an influence. This applies to all participants in the justice delivery. In sounding this caution, I am not passing judgement on anybody since what has engulfed us is still subject to determination by the appropriate authorities.”
Over 30 judges and magistrates were captured on camera receiving bribes to pervert justice. A committee was subsequently set up to interrogate these judges and magistrates who were implicated in the two-year investigative piece.
The Chief Justice suspended some of these judges after they were investigated.
Other committees have also been set up to probe over 100 judicial staff also implicated in the piece.
Anas has since the airing of his latest piece come under intense criticism with many accusing him of using unethical means to entrap the judges.
He has, however, defended his modus operandi deployed in uncovering his latest piece, emphasizing that he followed due process.
