Judicial Committee rules on Ga Mantse

Accra, Oct. 23, GNA - The Judicial Committee of the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs sitting at Dodowa will on Friday, November 9 give its ruling on a submission of no case application by Mr. Willie Amarfio, counsel for King Tackie Tawiah III, Ga Mantse on a petition before it on the status of the king.

The submission of Mr Amarfio followed a petition brought before the Committee by Mr A. G. Boadu, counsel for Nii Owula Kpakpo Blofonyo, Ga State Akwashong Mantse (Supreme Warrior), challenging the nomination and installation of the Ga Mantse.

Mr Boadu is praying the Committee to declare as null and void the nomination and installation of Dr Blankson as Ga Mantse because, in his view, his nomination and installation were contrary to laid down Ga custom.

Mr Amarfio's submission of no case is against the petition that is challenging the eligibility of Dr Blankson as Ga Mantse, which is before the Committee.

Counsel has submitted that the petition from counsel on the other side is "fraudulent and bogus" and should therefore not be entertained by the Committee.

On November 9, if the Committee overrules the submission of no case, then it will go ahead to hear the substantive case, to determine whether the nomination and installation of the Ga Mantse followed approved Ga customs and traditions. On the other hand, if it should uphold the submission of no case, then the matter ends there.
