Julius Debrah, the newly appointed Chief of Staff has provided insights into the key criteria for appointments to the John Dramani Mahama government.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 moments before the swearing-in ceremony, Debrah emphasised that competency, expertise in delivering positive results, and the ability to diligently execute their mandate are the key factors for major appointments.
Debrah dismissed claims that the appointments made so far by the incoming President have been based solely on loyalty.
“I don’t think John Mahama is necessarily going to make his appointments based on people who supposedly are loyal to him. I think the first and foremost thing he will be looking for will be competency and one’s ability to work,” he said.
Debrah highlighted the importance of making competent appointments to ensure effective governance and the creation of a lasting legacy, especially with Mahama having only four years to serve the country.
“Don’t forget that he’s got only four years so there is no room for experiments. He needs people who can get it rolling and I think that is exactly what is informing his choice and selection of the members of his team,” he added.
The politician assured Ghanaians of the new administration's commitment to positively transforming the country's economic fortunes, stressing their determination to fulfill their mandates and promises.
“I want to give everybody hope, and the question is, is it possible? Yes, it is possible when you have the right people who are determined to make things happen.”
