June 4 Movement Roars

The Greater Accra Branch of the June Four Movement which is an organ of the government has called on the government to prevail upon the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice to probe all State functionaries who it says are likely to resign from their positions as the general elections draw near.

In a statement issued in Accra on January 29 the movement expressed concern about what it terms the infiltration of some elements into positions of trust with the sole aim of amassing wealth without regard to revolutionary principles. In the movements view, it is impossible for a State functionary to build houses, own a fleet of cars and send his/her children abroad for studies in a matter of three years.

The statement said such state functionaries must be brought to book before they get away with their ill-gotten wealth. The Movement noted that there is no magic that can save Ghana from high inflation and general discontent among workers unless the true virtues of probity and accountability are strictly adhered to.

The movementAEs statement came only a few days after the Minister of Trade and Industry, Mrs. Emma Mitchell resigned her post. Observers believe the June Four MovementAEs statement was politically motivated and aimed at embarrassing the poor lady minister.
