Almost 90 junior Doctors undergoing their housemanship at the Korle Bu teaching hospital have indefinitely withdrawn their services effective today.
The housemen and women say they have been given a raw deal by the Hospital administration. They complain their terms of engagement have not been clearly spelt out in their appointment letters. The Junior Doctors’ Spokesperson Dr Hilarious Abiu says they want to have their engagement regularized by the Hospital.
Their indefinite stoppage of work comes just a fortnight after they begun their housemanship on April 14 this year. They say nothing will move them to resume work until their terms of engagement are explicitly spelt out for them.
They are made up of 74 medical doctors and 14 dental surgeons. The Junior Doctors are currently locked up in an emergency meeting to concretize their resolve to stop work and clearly make their demands known to the Hospital’s administration. Korle Bu has chosen to remain mute for now.
