Junior Water Prize Launched

The minister for water Resources, works and housing Hon . Collins Dauda, has launched the international junior water prize in Ghana which is part of Stockholm world water week .

According to the minister the initiative dubbed "Junior Water Prize" seeks to reward school going youths between the ages of 12-18 who partakes in any water related projects and have excelled to the top, stands the chance to benefit from a sponsored trip to Stockholm in Sweden where they will compete on a world stage for a higher prize representing Ghana.

He said the junior water competition provides an avenue to encourage the youth in raising awareness, conserving, protecting water resources , and improving the health of inhabitants and ecosystems.

According to the minister, the water resources commission will host and serve as the lead institution and will work with the accredited national organizer.He added that a national organizing committee will be set up to support the planning and execution of the competition, whilst the ministry of water resources, works and housing will provide supervision for the whole program me.

The National Junior Water prize was initiated in 2008 and the winner represented Ghana in Stockholm, Sweden that year . But in 2011 the national winner for the junior prize , who developed a prototype grey water treatment system for recycling water in his school, unfortunately, did not receive the necessary funding to take part in the international competition .
