Surgeons at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital amputated body parts of over 200 patients in 2015.
The patients had several chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, and cancer.
Many of the patients reported late to the facility to receive treatment, Dr. Ishmael Kyei, General Surgeon at the hospital disclosed to Starr News.
Dr. Kyei urged people suffering from chronic diseases to report to the Hospital early when they notice different symptoms in their bodies, so alternate methods can be used either than amputation.
“If you report early with a symptom that would ultimately lead to amputation if nothing is done, we would intervene early...the longer you stay at home...you end coming at a very latter stage where nothing can be done but to save your life by removing a limb,” Dr. Kyei said.
