KEEA NDC goes to the polls

Akotobinsim, Elmina -- Barely any last minutes changes, the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem constituency branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC) would go to the post to elect executives who would steer the affairs of the party in the constituency today Wednesday 26th August 2014.

Various key positions are to be contested for and these include; chair and vice Chairmen respectively, secretary, propaganda secretary constituency organizer, women organizer, youth organizer and treasurer among others as well as their respective deputy positions.

Two positions that would be of keen interest to many are the chairman and propaganda positions which are being contested by some prominent personalities in the municipality.

In the military, the greatest wish of every lower rank officer is to rise to the top and become a general and this is to be expected today not in military but at the NDC Constituency contest as two main deputies are taking the fight to their bosses to grab their positions but as to whether this can materialized, only the delegates can determine today.

For instance, incumbent chairman, Mr. Michael Asmah is being fiercely contested by his vice, Mr. John Quaicoe popularly known as Wontumi Nntake and Mr. Samuel Kofi Woode, former chairman.

It is not clear why Mr. Wood would like to contest for a position he once occupied because according to many party faithfuls, Mr. Wood has paid his due by serving the party in various capacities some years back when he was younger.

Mr Samuel Woode’s decision to contest makes him the oldest among all the candidates. Messrs Francis Omanano, Michael Alex Cantah and Hon. Jones Edumadze-Acquah are the candidates for the vice chairman post.

Mr. Isaac Osofo Mensah, also known as Joe Pack, is facing a stiffer opposition from his deputy, Mr. Robert Wilmont. Mr. Kobina Thompson and Isaac Martin Jones are also in the race for the propaganda secretary slot while Mr. Gabriel Aidoo and Emmanuel Owusu Ansah will be fighting for the post of the deputy propaganda secretary.

Constituency secretary, Mr. Yakubu Enum would have a daunting task defending his position as two other contestants, Matthew Kwofie and Francis Kwashie Attipoe lace up their boots to contest him. Cosmos Anthony Cobbinah and Francis Asmah are going for the deputy scribe position in the constituency.

The Organiser post is a battle amongst; Francis Kwofie Adam, Joseph Arko and Stephen Kwesi Thompson while the deputy slot is up for grabs between Mr Stephen Mensah and Francis Nkrumah.

Emmanuel Cornelius Ampong, Emmanuel Annan and Joseph Henry Mensah are the candidates for the Treasurer position with Mr Thomas Bofo Quarcoe contesting solely as the deputy.

Women organizer post would be a straight contest between two heavy weights namely Mabel Quayson and Esther Ayensu whiles Ophelia J. Amoah and Augustina Charity Ahlijah will be hoping to outdo the other for the post of the constituency Deputy Women organizer. Incumbent Youth Organizer, Philip Mensah is being contested by Frank Arthur and Michael Amanor with John Mensah and Alphonse Baidoo competing for the Deputy youth Organizer position.

Meanwhile, the Director for elections of the NDC in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem Constituency, Mr Richard Boham says the party is well organised and adequately prepared for today’s elections. “There where initial confusion about the date as the regional executives were trying to impose a date on the constituency executives who are mandated by the NDC constitution to do so but now the dust has been settled and all is set for the elections” he assured.

Mr Boham entreated all the delegates to turn up in their numbers and exercise their democratic right by voting for their preferred candidates who would manage the party in the constituency.

It is surprising to note that, though the KEEA Constituency was the only constituency in the central region where the president, John Dramani Mahama had the highest number of votes during the last elections, the party loss the parliamentary seat it was holding to the main opposition New Patriotic Party[NPP].
