KMA defies court order over Kejetia Terminal

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) appears unconcerned about a Kumasi High Court ultimatum, ordering it to hand over the management of the Kejetia Bus Terminal in the Ashanti Region to Fredco FD, TV3 News has gathered.

Our reporter said on Midday Live on Friday, December 13, 2013 that checks on the last day of the court’s ultimatum revealed officers of the KMA are still at post.

It is the second time KMA is defying a court order, said Ibrahim Abubakr.

The first was issued by Justice Amoh Yartey on November 13, 2013. It gave the Assembly 10 days within which to hand over the management of the Region’s largest bus terminal to original managers, Fredco.

After that ultimatum elapse without any signs on the part of KMA to observe the court order, another one was issued by the same court presided over by Justice Yartey on December 5, 2013.

As a result of KMA’s indifference to the order, Fredco FD is reported to have filed a contempt of court writ against KMA.

However, reports say KMA had filed an appeal against the Kumasi Commercial Court Two ruling. Hearing has been scheduled after the Christmas holidays, our correspondent said.

KMA claims after just few weeks of being in charge, it has accrued five times more revenue than what Fredco accounted for.
