According to a report by an account on X (formerly Twitter), the deceased, Patrick Mensah, was a final-year student pursuing a BSc. in Agriculture Biotech.

The account, which is affiliated with KNUST, narrated that the deceased died after falling into a mining pit.

His uncle, who broke the news, said the deceased had arrived home on Monday after his final semester exam and visited a friend at a galamsey site in Manso the following Tuesday.

“He arrived home on Monday evening. On Tuesday, he visited his friend at a galamsey site at Manso and, while helping to rescue a gentleman who had fallen into a pit, he ended up falling in himself,” parts of the post read.

According to accounts from some of his coursemates, he celebrated after completing his final semester exams and was awaiting his project defence on Tuesday, the same day he reportedly died.

Following the announcement, Ghanaians who are saddened by the incident are sharing messages of condolence on social media.
