Kumasi, Sept.13, GNA- The Ministry of Tourism and Modernisation of the Capital City, is teaming up with the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to develop a comprehensive and appropriate website to provide information on all tourist facilities in the country to the outside world.
The website, when completed, will hook all tourism sites and facilities throughout the country onto the internet to market Ghana's tourism potentials and also allow prospective tourists have easy access to basic information on various tourist destinations in the country. The sector Minister, Mr Jake Obetsebey-Lamptey, said this when he toured the college of Art and Industry of the KNUST, as part of his working visit to the Ashanti Region.
He said the Ministry is also teaming up with the College of Arts and Industry, to design and offer training courses to master craftsmen to enable them to polish their finished products.
Mr Obetsebey-Lamptey said KNUST is a strategic partner in the development of the tourism industry in the country, adding that, effective collaboration will help promote the industry.
He said the Ministry was already in touch with the Faculty of Architecture of the University to come out with appropriate designs for hotel buildings to provide adequate escape routes and proper ventilation.
The Minister visited Bonwire, the home of traditional kente cloth in the Ejisu-Juaben District.
He said Bonwire has been one of the sites that had contributed and benefited immensely from tourism over the years.
He said the Ministry was putting in place partnerships with traditional, authorities, district assemblies and the private sector to provide facilities at tourist sites.
Mr Obetsebey-Lamptey, expressed concern about reported cases of harassments of tourists by the youth of Bonwire and appealed to the chiefs to advise the youth to desist from such behaviour.
