Kumasi, June 15, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has announced plans to host an international conference as part of the nation's year-long celebrations of its 50 years independence anniversary in memory of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, architect of both the university and Ghana's independence.
A source at the university, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi, said the conference slated for July 1-6, would be held on campus at the Great Hall on the theme: "Ghana @ 50: In Search of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah - Charting New Frontier of Knowledge and Leadership for Africa in the New Millennium".
The source said apart from the conference, the University in its bid to immortalize and recognize the heroic deeds of Dr Nkrumah, a large statue of the former president would be placed at a vantage point on campus.
According to the source, the aim of the conference was among others to provide an intellectual forum to debate Dr Nkrumah's political philosophy and action that changed the political landscape of Africa as his geo-political paradigm altered the balance of power in global diplomacy.
The unique and special conference would assemble distinguished scholars including persons who had had some working experiences with Dr Nkrumah to treat a wide range of topics relevant to his ideologies and personal vision towards Africa's emancipation and global peace, the source said.
