KNUST to introduce a course on Fashion

Kumasi, March 30, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is to introduce "Fashion" as a course of study at its Textiles section of the Industrial Art Department. Mr Joseph K. Nsiah, Head of the Department, said this is to give tremendous boost to the nation's economy by making most of its products competitive on the international market.

Speaking at the maiden orientation course for final year students of all the 18 Senior High Schools in the Kumasi Metropolis, he said even though the Polytechnics were pursuing fashion designing, there was the need for other things to be added to the programme to raise standards. Fashion, presently, is taught as an allied course under "Textiles" at the University.

Mr Nsiah said when it became a full course it would significantly contribute to the opening of job avenues by turning students into entrepreneurs.

Professor Ohene Manu, acting Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences, announced plans to extend the orientation programme to cover all the 10 regions to give students the opportunity to clear all nagging issues bothering them on admission to the KNUST.
