Katakyie Nyarku Eku joins ancestors

Agona Nyakrom (C/R), May 8, GNA - The mortal remains of Okofo Katakyie Nyarko Eku IX, Omanhene of Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, was buried at the Royal Mausoleum on Saturday, ending a weeklong mourning of the chiefs and people.

Among the dignitaries who paid their last respects to the late Omanhene were Odeefo Boa Amponsem, Denkyirahene and President of the National House of Chiefs, the NPP flagbearer, Mr John A. Kufour, Mr Isaac Edumadze and Ms Christine Churcher, MPs for Ajumako/Enyan/Essiam and Cape Coast respectively.

The Asantehene Otumfo Osei Tutu II, was represented by Nana Ofori Agyemang II, Omanhene of Adansi Traditional Area. Ghana Breweries, the Social Security and National Insurance Trust and traditional rulers from various paramountcies were also represented at the funeral.

In a tribute, Odeefo Boa Amponsem said the late Omanhene was a "master brain" behind the establishment of the National House of Chiefs, adding that, by his departure, a great vacuum had been created. He expressed optimism that the kingmakers would do all within their powers to choose a well-qualified successor to Katakyie Nyarko Eku.
