A fact-finding exercise to allow traders who had received their allocation papers to confirm details on their shops at the newly-constructed Kejetia market has been organized in Kumasi.

The programme held jointly under the auspices of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Kumasi City Markets Limited, managers of the ultra-modern facility, was to ascertain the locations of the various shops, names, numbers and sizes, as well as other details.

Ms Yvonne Naboo, a Deputy Director at KMA, who represented the Mayor, Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi, at the programme, said the exercise was done with reference to the allocation papers given to the respective traders.

In an interview with the Ghana News agency (GNA), on the sideline, the Deputy Director said the programme targeted dealers in hardware, rice, cooking oil and spices, provisions, mobile phones, jewellery and fabrics.

The rest included dealers in cosmetics, cooking utensils, fruits, water and drinks, bags and sandals, electronics, amongst others.

Ms Naboo, on the tenancy agreement, indicated that the KMA had taken notice of the traders’ concerns and had subsequently, channelled them to the managers of the facility for redress.

The Assembly, she noted, was committed to giving the traders the needed support to enhance their successful relocation to the facility, which constitutes the first phase of the multi-million dollar Kejetia/Central Market Redevelopment Project.

The completed first phase, executed by Messrs Contracta Engenharia Limitada, a Brazilian construction firm, is composed of 8, 420 leasable commercial spaces, comprising 6, 940 lockable and 1, 420 counter stores.

Other facilities include 60 food courts and restaurants, public transport terminal, fuel and gas storage tanks, waste separation docks, sewage treatment station, banking agencies, fire and police stations, as well as post offices, crèche and prayer room.
