Kennedy Agyapong and four others go unopposed

Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, and four other aspirants are contesting the up-coming parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region.

The four are, Mr Alex Afenyo Markin, Effutu, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, former Central Regional Minister, and the sitting MP for Komenda Edina, Eguafo.Abirem, Mr Ato Cudjoe, Ekumfi, and Mr James Owusu Barnes, Agona East.

Mr Thomas Adjei Baffoe, Central Regional Organizer of the party made this known to the press after the vetting of 31 aspiring parliamentary candidates at Swedru, during which nine constituencies converged at the vetting zone.

The constituencies were Agona West, Agona East, Gomoa East, West, and Central.

The rest were Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Awutu-Senya West, Awutu Senya East and Effutu.

Mr Baffoe said vetting of the aspirants in the Central Region was divided into three zones, namely, Agona Swedru, Assin Fosu and Cape Coast.

According to him, a total of 77 aspirants were vetted to contest in the 23 constituencies of the region

The Central Regional Organizer said out of the 77 aspirants, only eight were women.

Mr Baffoe expressed the hope that all the vetted aspirants would go through,adding that the party needed peace and stability even after the parliamentary primaries in all the 275 constituencies nationwide.
