Kennington FC crowned new gala champions in the UK

The Kennington FC emerged as the new Gala champions from a field of seven clubs which participated in the second gala tournament held for Ghanaian football teams based in London.

Kennington FC beat Parkview FC 2-1 to lift the coveted High Commissioner?s trophy in a thrilling contest to climax the one-day tournament.

The victorious Kennington FC exhibited great resilience and composure to come back from a goal down to clinch victory with in the last eight minutes of the final match.

Mr. Charles Wereko, Counsellor for Information at the Ghana High Commission, presented the gala trophy to the Mr. Daniel Damoah, Captain of Kennington FC on behalf of Ghana?s High Commissioner to the UK, Mr. Isaac Osei

Other teams which participated in the tournament included Republicans FC, the defending champions, Millennium FC, Soccer Stars FC, Deptford FC and Hackney FC.

On their way to finals, Kennington accounted for Millennium FC 2-0 and Hackney FC 1-0 but lost 2-3 to Republicans FC in the preliminary rounds. Kennington FC then edged out Deptford 2-0 in the semi-finals

Mr. Damoah, the ecstatic Captain of Kennington FC attributed his team?s success to the hard work and dedication of his players and was optimistic that the feat would spur on his club to capture the league title this year.

Kennington FC which is based in the London Borough of Lambeth is currently placed fourth in the Ghanaian Football League in the UK.

Mr. Peter Nuamah, Chairman of the Ghana Football Society expressed satisfaction with the high standard displayed by the various teams and revealed that the Society was seeking sponsorship to provide attractive prizes for subsequent tournaments.

The annual gala tournament was initiated by Ghana Football Society in collaboration with H.E. Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana?s High Commissioner to the UK with a view to forging unity among the Ghanaian community in the UK through the medium of sports.
