Ketu DCE urges Denu community to sustain the peace

Denu (V/R), Sept. 5, GNA - Mr Justice Cudjoe, Ketu District Chief Executive (DCE) at the weekend urged the people of Denu to sustain the commendable peace the area has been noted for, for other communities in the district to emulate.

"Your area has been one community that has never come up for mention for any kind of feud, making it the preferred choice of residence for visitors to the district; keep it as an example for others", he said during an honouring durbar organized by the chiefs and the people of the area to congratulate and familiarize with him following his appointment to the position.

"There are many, who are keen on sacrificing to turn around the fortunes in our areas, but they often get discouraged by the lack of unity, and we have to change now for the better", Mr Cudjoe added. He said the Assembly has earmarked on some projects for the town, including some roads in the town, schools and sanitation facilities, but stated that communities need to initiate projects for the Assembly to support.

He told the GNA later that, the Assembly has set aside 800 million cedis support for community initiatives this year, about 500 million for Assembly's own projects and another 800 million cedis for settlement of bills on completed projects, all from the Common Fund.

Mr Cudjoe also inspected finishing works on an abandoned 12-room single story classroom block, the construction of which Diamond Cement Ghana Limited (DCGL) took over in 2004 with the supply of 2000 bags of cement and some other materials totaling 400 million cedis for the Roman Catholic Primary School at Denu.

The Assembly also supports the project with 80 million cedis, with some families and individuals also playing their yeoman's role in it. The DCE bemoaned the rampant litigations over land in the district, saying, it is dragging the district backwards and called for an end to it to enable projects to take off on time or the areas concerned risk losing the projects altogether.

He asked the people to join the District Mutual Health Scheme for better accessibility to health care and to take advantage of the capitation grant, starting this year and get their kids enrolled in school.

He described Mr Francis Bedzo, Assemblyman for Denu as a leader, whose types are few and asked the community, who themselves recognized him as such and showered praises on him, to rally behind him to develop the town.

Mr Bedzo mentioned three projects the area is handling with support from the Assembly and seven others, including a 16-seater water closet toilet for the Denu Police Station.

Mr Foli Yevu, Community Secretary, said they were hopeful the DCE will live up to expectation and pledged to support him to succeed on his plans to uplift the area.
