The Ghana Police Service have been urged to work assiduously towards the retrieval of some seven girls alleged to have been kidnapped in Takoradi in the Western Region.

The situation which has become a topical and trending subject matter in the country’s media space has gotten Ghanaians worried and disturbed.

Sometime last week, news broke that some three girls who were kidnapped in 2018 have still not been released despite their families paying various sums as ransom to the kidnappers.

A Nigerian, Samuel Udoetuk-Wills who was subsequently arrested in connection with the case has refused to give any leads to the police concerning the whereabouts of the missing girls sparking further public outrage.

The distressed family members of another missing girl in Accra are also appealing to the public to assist them find their relation. But while the Ghana police service says it is doing all it can to locate the kidnapped girls and arrest the perpetrators, a section of the public believes more can be done to bring the perpetrators to book and reunite the kidnapped girls with their families.

According to them, kidnapping which is alien to the Ghanaian society can be curbed when measure are put in place by the security agencies, especially the police force and the ministry of interior to safeguard the country’s borders from foreign intrusion.

A Nigerian, Sam Udoetuk Wills, believed to be one of the people behind the kidnapping of the girls was re-arrested after escaping from police custody. However, none of the people he is thought to have kidnapped has been found. This has led to the parents of the kidnapped girls and most Ghanaians questioning police’s handling of the case.
